Hey there, my name is Trish Mullen and I’m an Internet Marketer and mentor in the online home business industry. On my site here, you’ll find a wide variety of content, information, tips and tricks when it comes to online marketing, personal growth and development. I also just like to write sometimes about things that interest me and these may or may not be directly linked to my home business. I love what I do, I love to push myself to achieve and learn and be the very best I can be…..and that’s what I want to help YOU to do as well.
So first, a little bit about me…
I grew up in Scotland, left there at 18 to explore the world and never went back really! I visited regularly, and still do but my home now is in Northern Ireland where I live with my husband Stewart and our 2 dogs, Bingo & Gem.
I worked in Government Service for a number of years and this took me all over the world; I lived in Cyprus for about 9 years, Germany for 5 years I think and in between those fitted in some time in Hong Kong, Sri Lanka and Bahrain. It was during all this time that I gained numerous leadership skills, qualities and experience that remain with me to this day.
Following that, I trained and worked as a counsellor/Social Work Assistant and found this work really humbling, but exceptionally rewarding and fulfilling. It was the realisation that the ‘red tape’ that surrounds this type of work couldn’t be broken down even by me that sent me down another related but different path.
I moved into Career Guidance and working with people from the military. I supported them in their transition from the military into civilian life. This is by far one of THE most rewarding jobs ever, particularly when you see someone who fears they are only worthwhile in the military. During their 3 day workshops, they quickly gain confidence once they realise the highly sought-after transferrable skills they have can map across into virtually any civilian career.
It was during this period that I received a Leadership Award and this means the world to me, not least because I was nominated for it by my peers and the team I worked with.
Everyone who knows me says I am honest, caring, reliable, have a strong work ethic and love to help others do well; that is my resume I suppose…and I am proud of it. I have never, nor will I ever stand on anyone or go behind anyone’s back just to make a fast buck or to make myself seem more important…….I don’t suffer fools gladly and have no time for fools that operate like that either 
My Own Transition
In 2005 and with absolutely no notice, the military announced a major redundancy (2,000+) in the region I managed. All of my skills were required now; planning, organisation, forward thinking, negotiation, crisis management etc and I quickly proposed my plan to manage this redundancy programme.
From start to finish, we worked tirelessly for about 2 years and I came out the other side a bit greyer , having worked 70 hour weeks for about 18 months but I really loved every minute of it and wouldn’t have changed a thing. The rapidly expanded team I worked with were highly motivated, like minded and always worked with the customer in mind because like me, their main motivation was – they cared…….that was my starting point during the recruitment process!
The whole thing was a huge success and was highly commended at the most senior levels – within Government departments in London!
From Career Guidance to Internet Marketing…
I’ve always been kind of interested in personal development and read lots of books over the years about ‘being the best you can be’. I remember watching ‘The Secret’ and reading the book by Rhonda Byrne and that completely changed how I looked at what I had and what I wanted out of life. Around this time also, someone recommended I read ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad’ by Robert Kiyosaki and that was my catalyst for change.
I knew then my days of working for others was limited; this was old-fashioned and we’ve been taught things and become institutionalised into the way of thinking that to work for someone is what we strive to do. This may have been right at one time, but it is not anymore.
Today’s world is different than it used to be, the way it’s always been done isn’t working any more, we need to work smarter than we ever did. People are coming to the internet for EVERYTHING now, that’s where it’s all happening and I knew that’s where I needed to be.
I needed another challenge like I had when planning and implementing that big redundancy project; I needed something I could start off small, or with nothing and just grow.
And How Was It For You Trish………………………
Having just used the internet previously to do a bit of surfing or look for something specific, i quickly realised that there was an entirely new world in front of my eyes that I never even knew existed…..the world of Online Marketing.
In my excitement to learn so many things, I ended up being ‘Jack of all Trades’ and most definitely ‘Master of None’! This I now know is a common mistake that most newcomers to Internet Marketing make; their excitement knows no bounds, and I was exactly like that.
When I first made some money, I remember thinking “how the heck did that happen” – I had no idea how they found me or my product but I was just so pleased they had. I started to received emails from people all over the world; people contacted me on Skype as well with lots of questions about how to make money on the internet.
I Love WordPress and Showing People How To Run Their Business Online!!!
So I set myself a new challenge of learning as much as I could and this even included trying to figure out some of the technical stuff almost developing alopecia in the process:)
I now have lots of knowledge, made tons of mistakes and am ready, willing and able to pass all that learning on to others starting out online. I have a real thirst for WordPress and if you haven’t heard of it……well ask any web designer or web master and they’ll cringe….or they may be humble enough to go red with embarrassment. You see this marvel that is WordPress puts the power of our website back in OUR hands……we no longer need to be ‘held to ransom’ by greedy and precious Web Masters…..We don’t need to know code, if we can cut and paste, we have the makings of a great website.
I teach this now……..don’t allow your lack of website knowledge to stop you doing anything….those days are gone and I’m here to show you how much a thing of the past they are! My Role…
Well now I have a great desire to help others to make their dreams become a reality, just like I did. I see what’s happening out there in the ‘world of work’ and I know………it’s time to create a real SHIFT in how people are working.
There are people out there way more capable than their job or role allows, they are totally unaware of their true potential, they are oblivious as to how powerful they can be with just the right support and because of this, they continue to live lives of quiet desperation…….
I want to do my part by using all of my previous and current experiences to help others realise they can do so much more than they are doing. We are all so deserving of better lives and sometimes we just need a hand to search for us and gently coax us into at the very least TRYING something different. We all have within us the power to change our lives around…..that tiny baby step is sometimes all it takes.
